From a long line of witches, Cora felt like a misfit. Contrary to what everyone said, she doubted she would ever inherit any of her ancestor’s special gifts. To distance herself from her families good intentions, Cora moved away to start her own life. For years she was fine -- until bad dreams tore apart her well ordered life. In order to re-group and battle her insomnia, she headed toward home and her family.
Though well meant, both her sister and mother tried to steer her toward what they deemed was best for her. Cora only wanted to find out what was wrong and go back to her peaceful existence. In one last desperate change to save her sanity, she tried an old spell she learned as a child. And things went drastically wrong.
She not only summonsed one dragon but two. According to her mother, she finally came into her own. Legends say the only way to summons a dragon was in a mating ritual. Cora didn’t want a mate; she wanted her to live her own life. When two Dragonlords come to collect their dragon aspects, Cora needed to make a quick decision about her future before her choices ran out. In a matter of hours, The Dragonlords tossed her world upside down. When her life was threatened, it was the last straw. It was time to start fighting for what she wanted.
The story opened with a great hook but it soon slowed down with a lot of intersection and back-story. Dragon Queen has a wonderful cast of characters. The interaction between her family and her love interests really carry the novel. The light touches of suspense kept me reading. The end came in a form of a cliff hanger. If you have the patients to wait for the next installment, Dragon Queen is a start of a great series.
