Colleen Vaughn, a WWII army nurse, falls in love with pilot Captain Daniel Ryan at first sight. He is just as smitten as she, but Colleen pushes him away, afraid of being hurt again. Her first love was also a pilot and he was lost in action.
Experienced in caring for the wounded at the front lines, Colleen well knows the dangers and heartaches of war. But she is steadfast and calm on duty. Supported by the friendship of her fellow nurses, Colleen tries to hide her longing for Daniel and to concentrate on her nursing duties. When she finally dares to allow herself to love again, a couple of surprise twists give added drama and suspense.
Grant has researched the time frame well and inserts historical details in a way that brings the story to life for the reader. I will look for more books by this author.
