“Arms of Deliverance” is the struggle of three women during World War II. Two of the women are newspaper reporters. Mary Kelly and Lee O’Donnally both long to be stationed near the action in Germany. Assigned by different papers at the same time, they become both rivals and fast friends. Mary grew up poor and is struggling hard to make something of her self. Lee is the daughter of a wealthy family and uses her contacts to gain what she desires.
The third woman, Katrin, a Czech Jew, who passes herself off as an Aryan, and is the mistress of a high ranking officer in Hitler’s Army. Hendrick, Schwartz is not only a high ranking officer, but the officer in charge of finding the orphans he deems pure Aryan and relocating them with upstanding German families. Katrin finds herself pregnant she doesn’t know what to expect from Hendrick. Things progress quickly when Hendrick places her in a home for pregnant women for the “mother land”.
Meanwhile Mary struggles to find the heartfelt stories of the war. Mary starts looking at the war through the common man. Lee uses her family ties once again to get what she thinks is a prime opportunity to see the action up close. Little does she know how close she really will get.
For me this book was both enlightening and attention grabbing. I learned a lot about parts of War World II I never knew about prior. The book grabbed me emotionally and you begin to fear for the characters. Before you realize it you are caught up in the book and can’t wait to see what happens next. This book is fabulous and a must read for anyone who truly enjoys becoming part of the story.
