A SOUNDING BRASS by Shelley Bates

Claire Montoya does not know what to believe anymore. The Elect of the church she belongs to have fallen into disgrace, everything she has been taught, she questions. Why does she have to wear black at all times, what is the real reason they don’t want her to leave town?

Luke Fisher is an evangelist, and also a well known DJ. He steps up after the scandal and lets the members know he is there to bring them into the light and out of the dark ages. He hires Claire as the radio stations bookkeeper. Luke also has a past, which he would like to keep in the past.

Ray Harper is a police investigator who suspects Luke of embezzlement. Ray is also intrigued by Claire, at first he gets close to her in order to find out information about Luke, and then he realizes he is actually interested in her as a woman.

Claire is confused about not only the old teachings, but also the teachings of Luke. She finds herself attracted to both men, one is a man of God and believes what she believes, and the other is an outsider. Can she trust either one with her heart and her soul?

This is the sequel to Pocketful of Pearls. Claire was a wonderful woman. Even though she had questions about the teachings of the church, she tried to be true to herself. There were times she seemed to innocent for the situations at hand, nonetheless, a worth while book.
