HELP! I’M FALLING FOR THE VAMPIRE NEXT DOOR by Celine Chatillon

Divorced and without a job, Melynda Kerpanik took refuge with her cousin. In repayment, Mel offered to decorate an empty warehouse for renters. Things go great at first. Until she learned she has a neighbor who doesn’t leave the building until nightfall. Unable to contain her curiosity, Mel decided to do investigate on her own.

Valentine Drakul came back to his basement apartment to find his new upstairs neighbor snooping in his apartment. After the introduction, he realized how attracted he was to her. Because he is a vampire, he refused to touch her or even get involved with her.

In a twist of fate, the two become close. Unaware of Val’s double life, Mel found herself falling in love. But in order to repay her cousin’s generosity, Mel has to wine and dine a one Mr. Leo VanHelsing. The name rings a bell with Val and his kind. It meant trouble. In order to battle an old evil, they must work together and risk everything to survive. It will also force Mel to face the truth. But she doesn’t know if she can accept and live with something not quite human.

Celine Chatillon has created a great hero and an even better villain. Both men came alive and really carried the story. Unfortunately, Mel did not come across the same. I wasn’t able to sympathies with her or her actions. As it was, the story read more like a battle between good and evil, with Mel as a pawn between the two men. The romance felt secondary to the story. The action scenes made the ending the best part of the book and well worth the read.
