FATHER OF THE WOLF by L. Shannon

Hope is one of those people that can always see the bright side of things, even when she is attacked by a pack of wolves while trying to help what she thought was a stray. How did that happen? She’s afraid to drive after a car wreck involving her parents, and while waiting for her friend to drive her home she sees a stray dog getting attacked by a pack. Trying to rescue the dog, she sees something that she can’t believe… did one of the wolves turn into a man? When her friend finally manages to convince her to drive home on her own, she ends up hitting a wolf in the middle of the road. Feeling responsible, she can’t help but make sure that it’s ok… she’s a vet after all. But there’s something different about this wolf, and she’s about to find out what.

Athair is the leader of his pack and has been alone for a long time and after a while, lost hope that he would ever find his mate. After years of isolation, he’s decided that it’s time for his pack to go out into the real world, as there just isn’t enough women for them to live peacefully. When he attempts to make contact with other packs, he is betrayed, drugged, and seriously wounded. He doesn’t remember who or what he is for a while, and when the woman hits him with the car that’s the final straw. When he wakes up and starts to remember, he finds himself attracted to Hope in a big way. Could she be his mate?

I enjoyed this story, it had a lot of twists and turns that I didn’t expect, and it certainly started out with some pretty interesting scenes to get you involved in the story. The ability of author L. Shannon to make Athair a leader and father figure at first, then turn it around and make him a sexy leading man all in the same story was truly inspiring. When I started out reading it, I didn’t know where it was going at first, because it seemed like it took a long time for Hope and Athair to meet and strike sparks. Hope was an interesting character too; all the things she had been through had still made her a compassionate person, if a little reclusive. It was somewhat of a surprise to see how well she took to Athair’s family when they showed up, I thought they could be pretty intimidating, especially for someone as reclusive as Hope. If you like werewolf tales, Father of the Wolf is an appealing tale that has plenty of action and is definitely one that you shouldn’t miss.
