THE WAY TO A MAN’S HEART by Charlene Sands

Christy loves small town living, and her catering business is doing very well. When her elderly friend and neighbor passes away, his son comes home to settle the estate, throwing Christy a curve ball. She’d always been attracted to Kyle in high school, but with all the girls throwing themselves at him, she’d kept her distance – and her feelings to herself.

Kyle has always been attracted to Christy, and temporarily living next door to her again renews those feelings. After a few nights of dinners and her working on his computer, their relationship moves to the next level, something Christy isn’t sure she’s ready for. She has some heavy-duty trust issues and isn’t convinced that Kyle feels the same way about commitment that she does.

THE WAY TO A MAN’S HEART is about Christy and Kyle coming to trust each other. They’ve grown since high school, and have to move into an adult relationship while leaving the teenage angst behind. This is easier for Kyle, who is a strong, well-written yet not overly deep character. Christy has more issues, often coming across as childish when Kyle speaks to people she feels threatened by.

This book is almost a sweet romance – a simple relationship and fairly shallow emotions stop it from getting intense and the love scenes are fairly innocent. The main storyline is trust, so I’d hoped for some really lively dialogue but it stays pretty even keel, never venturing too far from its safety zone.

For a simple, nicely written story, THE WAY TO A MAN’S HEART fills its goal.
