HUNTING THE HUNTER by Shilo Walker

Kane has been traumatized by events he can barely remember, and they concern his partner Duke. He knows that he witnessed his murder in a case gone bad, but doesn’t seem to be able to recall the details like he normally would. As time has went on, he realizes that one of the people who killed his partner has to be a vampire, and starts to become obsessed with hunting them down and killing them. He’s always known there was a different world out there, after because his partner was a shape shifter, but he had no idea that it was quite so varied. The trouble is, all he can dream about is a woman that he’s sure is involved in his partners death… and his dreams don’t involve killing her. After two years of learning to kill vampires, he comes across the woman he sees in his dreams, only to find out she’s one of the very beings he’s been hunting for revenge. br>
Kendall doesn’t need a human sniffing around her, especially one as talented in bounty hunting as Kane. When he starts to chase her down, she’s more amused than scared, sure that she can handle him. After all, he may be good, but he is only human. Then she finds out that she may be starting to care for him and it turns her whole world upside down.

I thought that the characters in Hunting the Hunter were wonderful. Kendall is a tough woman who can more than take care of herself, and that was one of the best things about this story. It was fun to see the woman be in the position of protecting the man for a change, and Kendall does a great job. Kane is no slouch, but he is human and doesn’t have the same abilities that Kendall does, even though he is surprisingly resilient. The interactions between the two are wonderful, you really feel like they care about each other and start to hope that they can find a way to stay together, regardless of both of their pasts. Kendall has a lot of things from her history that she has to work through before she can accept what Kane offers her, and sometimes she’s just not sure she’s going to be able to do it. Hunting the Hunter is a fantastic story with lots of action and hot sex, and is unquestionably going on my keeper shelf!
