Alexander McBee is not all that great at being a P.I. He has phobias for any type of germ, animal, and people. He also has a new partner, who it seems is better being a private investigator than him. This new partner just happens to be part schnauzer, part poodle. McBee wants to keep Herr Schnoodle under wraps. He would be the laughing stock of not only the police station, but also the neighborhood. He has to make a living doesn’t he?
We meet a bag lady, Apple Sally, which McBee thinks is not really a bag lady, and she is to refined to be a street person. Apple Sally does not remember anything, it seems she has amnesia. McGee would love to help her remember her past, but she seems content to live as she is. We also meet Darcy; a female gossip reporter who starts to dog McGee’s every step. Maybe they can work together without Apple Sally knowing, and find out what happen in her past and get her back to her live before she is murdered. There has been a rash of bag ladies being killed; all of them had red hair, just like Sally. Will McGee roll over and lose his heart to Darcy. He knows he will also have to come clean about who is really solving the cases.
What a fun romp this book was. A dog who is a scene stealer. A reporter who is sniffing way to close for McGee’s comfort, a bumbling private investigator who has a heart of gold, a bag lady who has words of wisdom for everyone. The only disappointment you will have is when the book ends. The author, P. K. Paranya is a gifted writer; she knows how to keep her readers coming back for more.
