BOND OF BLOOD by Diane Whiteside

Rafael dedicated his life to battling evil. And ultimately died for it. In a cruel twist of fate, he became something only mentioned in legends, something he abhorred. A vampire. For seven hundred years, he had to deal with the loss of everything he held dear, including the love of his precious wife. Over time, Rafael became one of the most powerful Vampires in the United States. When dissention rose in the ranks of vampires and he has a decision to face. To join with the other vampires and rule the country with an iron first or fight for justice. Rafael chose to fight.

Vengeance reared its head in a form of an ancient enemy, Diego. Centuries ago, Rafael killed the creature that created and tortured him for amusement. Diego never forgave him for killing the man who was like a father to him. As a man who enjoyed cruelty, Diego became a vampire who lived for revenge and practiced on others in order to perfect his killer instincts. The only weakness Rafael has were the people he swore to protect. It was a place to start.

A veterinarian on a routine hike, Grania found herself confronted by a real life vampire. The scientific part of her wanted to study the species, the woman part of her wanted to study the man. When their lives became intertwined, neither were able to forget their encounter. As the killers closed in on them, Grania feared she found the love of her life only to loose him. All she has to do was convince him that their love was worth a chance at forever, for together, she knew they would be untouchable.

Bond of Blood is a dark novel with edgy scenes that push a reader to reach for more. This action pack novel has a bit of everything, from a sexy romance in one chapter, to a car chase and a gunfight in the next. Diane Whiteside created complex characters with a full life, with both the ups and downs that make this reader cheer for them. This is not a book for those who want a sweet romance but instead, it’s a gritty, deeply moving novel to touch a person’s emotions. The foreign language made me hesitate for a moment, but my attitude quickly changed. By the end of the book, I found the language enhanced the story a hundred percent, making it more realistic. I can’t wait for book two in this fantastic new series.
