Smart Chick Mystery

THE TROUBLE WITH TULIP by Mindy Starns Clark

Mulberry Glen, Pennsylvania

Jo Tulip has taken over the newspaper column her grandmother started, Tips from Tulip. She answers peoples perplexing household cleaning questions. She is getting married to Bradford. Bradford works for Tulip’s father. There is someone who thinks she is marrying the wrong guy, Jo’s best friend, Danny Watkins. In Jo’s spare time, she solves murders.

Danny Watkins has been best friends with Jo for as long as he can remember. He is a struggling photographer. To supplement his earnings, he takes pictures of crime scenes for the police department. He really wants to tell Jo not to marry Bradford, he knows Bradford is the not the man for her, he is. But he does not want to get Jo mad at him and no longer be friends. He suffers in silence, which is hard when he spends a lot of his time with Jo. When a murder occurs, Danny knows the one person who can solve it, Jo.

As Danny and Jo figure out the clues of the death of Edna Pratt, they struggle with feelings they have for each other. It is doubly hard on Jo, on the day of her wedding, Bradford left her at the alter and her parents are on his side! Her column is also suffering, the readership is down, newspapers are starting to drop the column, and her life is a big mess. Danny is beside himself, now that Bradford has flown the coop, he wants to declare his true feelings to Jo and hope for the best.

What a great book. There was romance, mysteries, murders, family disputes, intrigue, there were also a few laugh out loud moments. Danny and Jo’s frustrations were heartfelt. They also had a huge amount of faith. Their respective faith kept them going. There is another Tulip book, "Blind Dates Can be Murder".
