Dana Hamilton knew she was special, her father told her so often. She
only came to learn how special when the truth about her heritage came
into light. Fraternally, she came from a line of natural healers. Dana
listened to her father’s warning and never tested her gift. As an adult
now, she forgot those cautionary words when the life of a small boy hung
in the balance. She refused to let him die, and the power activated a
special agent in her blood. It was then her life went to hell. The agent
called vampires out like a beacon. No matter how far or how hard she
ran, they always came for her.
After a plea from a member of his vampire group, Nicholas Grey went in
search of her missing daughter. And found Dana held captive, a slave to
Adrian Blake, a ruthless vampire who treated humans no better than
cattle. Nick knew if not for her powerful blood, Adrian would have
killed her months ago. Known as the Angel of Death, Nike was a ruler
that even other vampires feared. Whispers of his ability to walk in
daylight made his reputation even more forbidding.
Dana didn’t know what to make of Nick, especially since she was
literally offered to him and subsequently refused. Everyone knew
vampires were evil and not to be trusted. Than why didn’t he take what
was offered? Nick showed up the next morning, ready to break her out of
her prison. Distrustful but desperate to leave, Dana accepted his help.
Together, they traveled to Nike’s home and protection of his family.
Hunted most of the way, they were forced to trust one another, for to
battle alone could lead to their death … or worse.
The flashbacks in the beginning were important to the story but it made
it hard for me to become involved in the characters life. Too many, too
close together didn’t allow me to feel sympathetic to the characters. I
loved the story line and the unique gifts the characters portrayed. The
dialogue was very well done and really carried the story. The further I
read, the more I wished I could see the story a bit more through the
characters eyes. The love scenes were exceptional, both in the reading
of it and in the emotions expressed by the characters. The ending came
as a surprise, the twist unexpected and it fit very well in the novel.
Kate Steele did a fabulous job at creating a magical world where two
exceptionally gifted but lonely people could find each other and a
lasting love.
