Historical Romance

WHITE EAGLE'S LADY by Pamela Johnson

Sarah Reynolds education in the finishing school back east did not prepare her for what was ahead. After receiving a letter form her father Charles Reynolds telling her of the position of school teacher he had waiting for her at the fort, Sarah could think of nothing else but to go west. To be with her father after all these years was like a dream for the young woman.

A bright future was waiting for her; a bright future which would take a turn. The army escort was attacked on route to the fort and all were killed except for Sarah and the infant daughter of one of the soldiers. Here in this unknown land Sarah had to find a way to get back to her father and the fort.

White Eagle, one of the Cherokee warriors, the one who saved her from the raid, had no wish to harm the woman or her child and though he was also hurt trying to save them he still knew that the woman and child were in danger and he had to keep them safe. In this place and time two people who would never have met found that they must trust each other and form a bond in order to keep alive.

Sarah realizes the stories she had read about the Indians were just that stories and learns first hand how proud and kind these people were. Seeing this warrior risk his own life to protect her and care for her made her see that someone must make all white's understand they are not savages but people who only want to be left in peace.

The story brings out all the compassion and even the injustice done to just this tribe but to all the tribes. Their lands taken from them and when they fought so many were killed. Men, woman and children died for the land that was theirs, only the Indians never considered the land theirs, they considered the land their mother and a good mother takes care of her children.

This story gives the reader all the romance of the West and also brings the compassion and love that two people can have when even against all odds do find a way to make a life and family.  Beautifully presented and for all those who love a well written romance; I highly recommend it
