Chloe was one of the Moirae sisters, the famous or infamous three fates. After a millennia of boredom, she has had enough. She needed a vacation. And what better place than earth? Her sisters warned Chloe against the visit, fearing that mingling with the mortals she literally has life or death over, might become a bit overwhelming.
Upon meeting Tanner, Chloe cannot help but feel an instant attraction. She wanted to experience the pleasures of Earth, but she had not expected to indulge in her sexual fantasies. Returning home slightly drunk, her inhibitions slipped and temptation overrode practicality. Everything was perfect except for Tanner’s volatile mood swings. Chloe realized her powers were not infallible on earth. In horror, she listened to Tanner describe his mother’s death. Could she have been the one to issue the order?
Tanner had been trying to bury himself and his guilt at his mother’s death, at the bottom of a bottle. Then Chloe came along and destroyed his plans. He didn’t want her in his life, but somehow she became indispensable to his survival. Just when his feelings start to emerge, he learned of her true nature. Now, Tanner must overcome his past to grab his future before it has a chance to disappear as quickly as it came.
I liked Tanner, but felt he was almost too depressed at times. The story read smoothly, but I needed a slower or better resolution from his happy to sad moods to make them more believable. I liked the ending but felt it came too swift for me to believe in a happy ever after for this couple. The tension between the characters was done very well and the love scenes matched the characters personalities… talk about steamy! For a great summer read, check out your copy of Tempting Fate.
