Charlotte Halloran’s husband was killed by a drunk driver. The pain is so deep, heart so shattered she knows she can never love again.
Handsome and wealthy Captain Gareth Van den Hout is immersed in his career running the cruise ship Pearl of the Ocean. Three years earlier his wife succumbed to the ugliness that is cancer. He’s not looking for love either.
But, maybe God has other plans.
When Charlotte and her daughter Chelle take a cruise aboard the Ocean Pearl the Captain seems very attentive. Gareth’s thoughtful kindness makes Charlotte rethink the plan of never loving again.
I love Lena Nelson Dooley’s writing. She develops the story well, the characters are real, and the romance is always yummy! I also am a avid traveler – my two favorite venues being cruises and all inclusive resorts, so I could really relate to the setting. The only thing I found troubling about the story was the way we were ‘shown’ the ship…it seemed that the mom and daughter spoke only to relay information to the reader. (But that could just be me because I know how a cruise ship works and the info given seemed really elementary.) And, with the whole conflict between the characters and themselves and love, well, the relay of cruise ship information is small.
The best part of the whole book, in my opinion was Gareth and Charlotte’s first kiss. Can you say wow?!
This Heartsong book will be out soon, it is number 702 and if you’re a fan of contemporary romances in unique settings then you need to read it! A Lena Nelson Dooley book is proving to me a sure thing for me.
