Emma Douglass has a secret to hide, which is precisely what brings her to the out-of-the-way town of Prospect. In Prospect, she holds the respected position of schoolteacher, and is very, very careful never to overstep the bounds of propriety. Her father’s past mistakes had shown her the value of a good, and unsullied, name, and she’d worked hard in the two years since she’s fled San Francisco to make her own name one to be respected.
When Grey North, the most handsome bachelor in town, cozies up to her with an odd proposition – pretend to be “sparking” so that others would leave them to their respective unmarried states in peace – Emma is not quite sure she trusts his motives, even if he is one of the trustees of the school!
