When Harmony was in her thirties, she moved to Harrisburg, PA. She meets Esther and Jedidah Bailer, an Amish couple. They become fast friends. She loves the area, she decides to stay. When she comes across a house for sale, she buys it, although it does need some tender loving care. She learns this is the old Bliss farm, where one of the bloodiest battles of the civil war took place. She also learns they have a reenactment of this battle every year. She meets Jon Peterson, a descendent of Melody and Johnny. When her clothes seem to have disappeared and in their place are clothes from the civil war time, she decides this must be part of the reenactment games.
When Harmony and Jon realize they have both gone back in time, they figure out if they can change the past, maybe Melody and Johnny can have a life together, but if they fail, they may be in the past forever themselves.
What a great book! The storylines are fabulous; the characters are charming, witty, and caring. The past does influence the present and the future, one just has to believe.
There are many layers in this book, no disappointments at all.
