YOU'LL BE THE DEATH OF ME by Christina M. Brashear

Allison Leavitt writes as Al Leavitt, mystery writer. She resembles a curvy 1940’s pin-up girl. Her favorite fantasy man is Ben Stark, one of her book’s characters. She meets her new neighbor Jay Cantrall, a police detective, who looks just like her fantasy man and embodies a lot of his qualities as well. They have a whacky landlady named Birdie Talbot who is devoted to her Chinese Crested show dog Ping. Ping takes an immediate dislike to Jay which causes a lot of unfortunate though comic encounters. Allison met Birdie 7 years before when she was recovering from a serious climbing accident and Birdie was a volunteer. Birdie ias very protective of Allison. Taffy the Terminator is a neighbor who spends time wherever men are present. Allison’s best friend Paige Hilton stages mock murders using paintballs. Jay’s partner Pearce Randolph is interested in Paige. The interest is mutual. Jay injures his knee at work and has to be off work for a month. Allison assists in his care while he is home recovering. There is tremendous sexual tension between Allison and Jay. Will they explore it while Jay is recovering from his injury?

The characters of Allison and Jay are very likeable and enjoyable characters. Allison is one of those people who knows everybody. Jay feel somewhat displaced having recently moved because of problems at work requiring a transfer. Despite Jay’s attempts to keep to himself he finds himself drawn into the day-to-day happenings of all the residents of the apartment building, most of them colorful characters. This story has tremendous heat between Allison and Jay, constant comedy because of all the goings-on in the apartment building, a lot of amusing situations where Ping is after Jay for some reason and through it all, there is the landlady Birdie Talbot. This story is great fun and I recommend it to everyone.
