Steve
Solomon, lawyer and all-around nice guy who tends to make more enemies
than friends, is devoted to his clients, loves women and wants to prove
that the Solomon name is still something to be upheld. His father, once
a judge, left his career when scandal tainted him as crooked. Though
Steve devotes his time to his cases and it doesn’t drive him in all
facets, he still hopes to some day prove her father’s innocence. Being
looked upon with frowns and conjecture by those around him, Steve plans
to land the case of his life and win. When famous Katrina Barksdale, a
former figure skater, is charged with killing her wealthy husband, Steve
hopes to land the case as her lawyer, which would set him up for years
to come monetarily and show his colleagues that he is worthy of being in
their company. Steve never counted on partnering up Victoria Lord, the
one woman who might just be his toughest obstacle yet.
Victoria Lord, Yale grad, lawyer and engaged to be married, wants to
make a name for herself. Though she’s finding it extremely difficult to
do, especially when she’s fired, she hopes to succeed when she’s hired
as Katrina Barksdale’s lawyer. Victoria knows that this case could be
the one to make her a most sought after attorney, but with Steve Solomon
in the chair beside her as co-counsel, she feels her fate might just be
doomed.
As
Victoria and Steve defend Katrina in the kinkiest and steamiest trial to
ever hit the Keys, they squabble more than they communicate and stand
toe-to-toe on everything from the law to Victoria’s fiancé. Can Solomon
and Lord win their most public case yet? Will they survive one another
in the courtroom…and out of it?
Paul
Levine’s Solomon vs. Lord is a hit! Though I did find it’s
sequel, The Deep Blue Alibi first, before I was at the end
of the first chapter in that one, I realized that there was a prequel
and ventured to find Solomon vs. Lord to read first, and I
am definitely thrilled that I did. Victoria and Steve are magnetic and
memorable characters. Their humor--even when they aren’t trying to
be--and their penchant for driving the other crazy, makes this book one
of the most enjoyable suspense/thrillers I’ve ever read. In the case
against Barksdale, the intrigue and the wonderment whether she killed
her husband or not, keeps a reader in tune with the case and figuring
things out through Solomon’s own laws. Mr. Levine keeps a reader hooked
to learn the truth and if Steve and Victoria would stand by one another
in the end, or if they’d walk away.
Steve’s nephew, Bobby, is also a hook in this story. Bobby’s past and
Steve’s fatherly devotion to his nephew, bring a softness—though a
toughness too—to the characters and the story. In this aspect, it also
gives the reader a much more in-depth glimpse into who Steve Solomon is,
and shows who Victoria is as well, when she deals with Bobby. Bobby’s
presence brought out the inner depth to both these characters that makes
the book all the better.
Solomon vs. Lord
starts of this series with a great hit and makes a reader to read book
two, The Deep Blue Alibi. Mr. Levine is an author to
remember if a reader wants fun, excitement, fantastic characters and a
no-holds barred story that doesn’t tip-toe around with pleasant or
flowery words. It’s straight to the point with murder, attraction and
justice. Solomon vs. Lord delivers and should be on the
big screen! I was casting each character as I read. Don’t miss out on
this fantastic read!
Book
two, The Deep Blue Alibi was released January 2006.
