THE PRICE OF PRIDE by Donna MacQuigg

Territory of New Mexico - 1892 and Arizona

Ira Farrell was a U. S. Marshall in Carefree, Arizona. He just received a telegram informing him his brother, Zachary has died in a horrible fire. He knows he needs to go home to be with his family. The Mayor of Carefree has asked him to look into the suspicious death of another U.S. Marshal, who was looking into a possible cattle rustler operation close to Ira’s hometown. Of course Ira agreed to it, maybe his brothers death was linked somehow to the death of the marshal.

Sarah Brighton was a journalist for the St. Louis Herald. She has just been informed her cousin Emily has died in a terrible fire. The same fire which killed Zachary Farrell. Emily and Zachary were in fact engaged.  Sarah has a plan; she will reopen Emily’s dress shop as a cover, to determine the true reason why Emily died.

Sarah and Ira are put together because of the fire. They both know something else is going on, they both need to tread lightly, or someone could get hurt or be killed. They soon learn they both are attracted to each other, but due to her cover as a married woman to everyone including Ira, people are shocked at her behavior.  When Ira is shot in the back, Sarah realizes she loves Ira and needs to come clean or risk losing him. Can Ira come to terms with the fact he finally has found true love, and is he ready to give up his badge for Sarah? They are hopeful they will solve the mystery of why Zachary and Emily were killed. They know they have to find the killers before they strike again.

The intense heat between Ira and Sarah was explosive. It was somewhat graphic.
“The Price of Pride” had everything a great historical romance should have; romance, mystery, murder, cowboys. The two main characters, Ira and Sarah had been thrown together due to circumstances beyond their control. Their immediate attraction to each was amazing. Donna MacQuigg is a very talented author. This is her third historical book. No disappointments will be found in this book.
