Thelma’s Eatery has wonderful soul food and a homey atmosphere which draws crowds of regular customers. It’s especially popular with college boys who are missing their grandma’s cooking. But for Shauna, manager, and Kim and Rae, waitresses, their focus on sex is as good as the daily sugary specials. Thelma, Shauna’s mother, sends in an accountant, Dillon McMartin, to check the last year’s records. Things heat up in the kitchen and in the lives of all the staff at Thelma’s Eatery.
Ms. Blue has written a delightful story with a cast of characters as intriguing as those in Peyton Place and a setting reminding everyone of their favorite grandmother’s home cooking. The cast of characters in this story is very colorful and really keep you on your toes as a reader because there’s never a dull moment. These characters include Shauna, manager, Thelma, owner and Shauna’s mother, Dillon McMartin, accountant from KMP, Kim, waitress and part-time student, Rae, waitress and the one who’s always hitting on some new man, Jose, the hunky busboy who attracts the attention of all the ladies working at Thelma’s and also a student, Leroy, head cook, and Keshawn, Tyrone and Bruce, the other cooks. Besides the liveliness of all the characters, Ms. Blue has truly captured the warmth of Southerners. This book is a delight and I look forward to reading more books by Ms. Blue.
