Turn Up the Heat –
rrilyn Kenyon
This is a great
story to lead off this anthology. The chemistry between Alison and Vince
from their first meeting and they were exciting characters. Alison, a
small-town girl, cleans aisles at Wal-Mart and dreams of meeting a man
like those she reads in her favourite romance novels. When she wins (a
fixed) contest, where the winner will be swept away into the lives of
the heroine and hero in the book, her life changes forever. Alison
wanted excitement away from her mundane life, a sexy hero to worship her
like in her romance novel, however she never expected to be on the run
from bad guys set on killing Vince. Vince will do whatever it takes to
protect Alison, though he doesn’t want any entanglements, but he finds
himself drawn to the quiet, young woman who is a lot tougher than he
originally thought.
Ms. Kenyon pens
likable characters, passion and adventure in Turn Up the Heat.
Vince is a charming and roguish – a hero that readers will love.
Hunter’s Oath – Jaid
Black
Hunter’s Oath
is an extremely hot story than could have many readers fanning
themselves and looking for their significant other! Sofia travels to the
Arctic Circle where her brother died in a helicopter crash. Her world is
turned upside down when she is kidnapped and put on a marriage auction
block! She is purchased by Johen, a Viking Warrior who is certain that
he and Sofia are destined to be together. Sofia isn’t so convinced
however.
Ms. Black pens a
hot, erotic short story that adds even more passion and splash to this
anthology. Why Sofia felt the need to travel to the Arctic Circle where
her brother was killed seemed a bit off to me, but this story is still
enjoyable as we watch Johen, a delicious hero, convince Sofia that they
belong together.
The Warlord Wants
Forever – Kresley Cole
This story
introduces the characters of The Lore Series. Book two follows in April
2006 in a single title edition, A Hunger Like No Other.
The Warlord Wants
Forever
is a sensual story with amazing characters. Nikolai is a vampire chief
who holds Myst captive in the hopes to learn more about the Valkyrie
that the vampires haven’t uncovered. However, Myst turns the tables on
Nikolai when they both learn that she is his destined mate and his
desire for her could be the death of him. She leads him on, then leaves
him. Myst and Nikolai are a fire blazing and the heat comes in waves
off the pages and their animosity for one another adds to the tension
and the sensuality. The world of Valkyrie, vampires, Fae’s, and more,
add a wealth of action and adventure and a fast-pace to the story. This
is the best story in the anthology that I thoroughly enjoyed and hoped
there would be more stories about this world and the characters
introduced. Myst and Nikolai are strong-willed, passionate and
memorable. Ms. Cole writes a powerful beginning to what I think will be
one of the best paranormal series in a long while. Her writing holds a
reader transfixed and extremely satisfied in the end.
This anthology is
packed full of excitement, memorable characters and great writing. Each
story has something in common – three bad boy heroes, three heroines who
give as good as they get and suspense that keeps a reader on the edge of
their seat. Ms. Kenyon and Ms. Black have facets of fantasy within their
stories, while Ms. Cole showcases suspense and pure paranormal. Each of
these stories has something for every reader, which makes this an
anthology worth seeking out and reading.
