MR. GREY AND THE HOTEL GHOSTS by A. J. Matthews

Claudia Mackenzie has a problem. The hotel she must sell was reported to be haunted. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t figure out if the rumors were real or not. But when months go by and prospective buyers are scared off, Claudia knows when to call in for reinforcements. And who better than British ghost hunter Martin Grey.

On first view of Chestnut Mansion Hotel, Martin knew all was not as it was supposed to be. Someone has stirred up the ghosts. The more he tried to work out the problem, the more distracted he became by Claudia Mackenzie. The longer each of them stay in the house, the more he suspects the ghosts are not the problem but the solution.

Together Claudia and Martin are lead back in time to witness a family feud, murder, theft and soul wrenching heartbreak. Understanding the past has given them the clues to solve the mystery. But will it be too late? For if the ghosts weren’t the culprits of the haunting, what’s after them now?

The beginning of the book didn’t grab my attention right away. I loved the suspense, liked all the history given, but didn’t feel connected enough to the main characters to care about them. Not true for the secondary players. I loved the ghosts and the drama, especially the way they became intertwined in the story. AJ Matthews has a talent for writing suspense and action, and I hope to read more along those lines in the future.
