Dr. Alara Calladar needs to have sex…and soon! If she doesn’t, the cells in her body will fail to regenerate and her life will be over. With limited options around her, Alara isn’t sure what to do next. Her only course of action could be to sleep with the enemy…literally.
Rystani starpilot, Xander, is an enemy of all Alara holds dear, but she needs him. When she approaches him to help her, he issues an ultimatum -- he’ll give her what she needs to survive, if she’ll give him what he needs – her psi-talent to find a cure for a virus running rampant through the galaxy.
The more time that Alara and Xander spend together, the closer they become. But Alara still holds some secrets from Xander. And when the forces of the galaxy work against them, Alara and Xander must unite to save themselves and those plagued by the virus, but can they?
After The Challenge and The Dare, I’m greatly pleased that Susan Kearney brings readers another story linked to the first two books, and The Ultimatum lives up to its predecessors in many aspects. Alara and Xander are dynamic characters who appeal greatly to a reader. Both are strong, determined and keep us guessing. Their instant chemistry is undeniable and Ms. Kearney’s vivid descriptions through telepathy and in person, seduce a reader through Alara and Xander. The intrigue revolving around the virus that is affecting plants and animals pulls a reader into the story. However, I don’t feel that I received all the answers about the virus by the time the story ended. I felt there were still some things left undone, unexplained. Overall, I still enjoyed the story.
The Ultimatum is rich with an intriguing world, action, passionate characters (about each other and their causes) and is highly sensual. Readers won’t be able to resist it once they start it.
