A STUDY IN SCANDAL by Robyn DeHart

Lady Amelia Watersfield belongs to the Ladies’ Amateur Sleuth Society. She and her friends meet weekly to discuss mysteries/cases. One of her father’s Egyptian artifacts has been stolen. They hire a detective to hunt down the thief and recover the item. Inspector Colin Brindley is hired for the job and he fulfills Amelia’s idea of what a young Sherlock Holmes would be like. This is also a perfect case for Amelia to satisfy her sleuthing desires. She decides to assist him on his endeavor and these two begin an adventure that leads to love.

Amelia’s intelligence and curiosity is apparent from the opening pages of the book. She is a delightful and very spunky heroine. Colin is a man who prides himself in his self control. His past as well as life experiences made him deny his passionate nature. The investigation of the theft brings these two together and sparks fly from the first meeting. The author does a great job of expressing Colin's feelings and thoughts. He comes across as a very complex man who is capable of deep heart-felt emotions. It is Amelia who causes him to loosen his grip on his feelings. The dialogue between them can be fast and furious. The storyline moves at a quick pace as we follow the two leads on their search.

A Study in Scandal is the first book in a new series featuring the members of the Ladies’ Amateur Sleuth Society. It is a great start for this series! We are introduced to the other ladies so readers do get a glimmer of what they are like. It will be interesting to see what mysteries these ladies solve and who they encounter while doing so!
