Historical - Romance

New Orleans and Florida, 1855

Cait McCandless is on her way to Eden, her husband Ian’s plantation in Florida. She need to get out of New Orleans before her ruthless father finds her and annuls her marriage and makes her marry someone she has no intention of marrying. While waiting for her brother Daniel to come back, she has a unpleasant encounter with Hunter “Wolf” Prophitt who has mistaken her for a “woman of low morals“”.

Hunter Prophitt has just found himself a beautiful woman and he wants her. He propositions her. He is rather shocked when she refuses. If she is not a fallen woman, then why is she on the seedy docks of New Orleans? He finds out she is the wife of Ian McCandless and the daughter of Cotton O’Connor. He does not think too much of Cotton, as Cotton is a ruthless businessman, he had a run-in with him sometime ago.

All Cait wanted to do was to get to Eden to be with her husband, who she had not heard from for a while. Hunter agreed to get her there. She thought he was a pig. He did mistake her for a woman with low morals, when they first met. With each other, Cait and Hunter are like oil and water, they don’t mix well. After arriving at Eden, they find out Ian has been gone for quite a while. Hunter decides to look for him. He does find Ian’s body, it looks like Ian died by snake bite. He informs Cait of what he has discover. He also tells her, he owns Eden and not her. Ian borrowed money from Hunter and the only thing he had of value was the plantation. Hunter gives Cait a choice, marry him and she can stay at Eden as his wife or she will need to return home to her father. Will Cait accept his price? Or will she return to her father’s house and marry the man her father wants her to?

This was a wonderful book to read. It was refreshing to see the female character, Cait, grow from a spoiled child, to a woman who truly learned to care for others around her. It was wonderful also to see the male character, Hunter, learn he didn’t have to take everything by force. If you enjoy historical romances set in the 1800’s in Florida, this book will most definitely be the one to read.
