When Aria finally decides to use a vacation she has won in hopes of working off some frustrations with a willing man, she’s surprised to learn that her trip was an elaborate set up designed capture her and others for an alien planet. The most shocking thing of all is that instead of being terrified, she finds herself attracted to their leader, Captain Tai. It’s surprising how sexually free this new world is, and just how many new things she finds out she could try. She’s told she could work off her frustrations with any of the crew on the ship, so she chooses the captain. Unexpectedly, she herself falling in love with him, even though she’s told she can never have him for her own. After all, the whole reason the captured her is that she is the destined mate of the king. What will happen when she finally meets the king? Will Aria find that the mate bond is stronger?
Tai wanted Aria as soon as she stepped on the ship, and found himself becoming possessive, something he’s never been before. He knows that they don’t have a future, because fate has decreed that Aria is his king’s mate. In his world, his people have one fated mate, and they find them by means that has never failed them before. But if that’s true, why does he find himself falling for Aria?
For some reason the characters did not feel well developed and real, particularly the king that Aria is supposed to marry. Tai is torn between his duty and what he feels for Aria. Aria doesn’t want to understand any of it; she just knows that she loves Tai. She can’t believe that what she feels for Tai will be overwhelmed by her mate bond with Zander, the king. Aria is a little bewildered by what is going on but is able to cope with the capture and relationships admirably. I enjoyed reading about what happens to both of them, and I think it’s definitely one to pick up on a cold winters night.
