Daniel McCabe has a problem. His life has just changed, and not to his
liking, either. His nephew has just arrived unexpectedly, seemingly
abandoned by his mother, on Daniel’s doorstop. Daniel has no choice but
to give up his skirt-chasing bachelor ways and start making a good
example of himself.
However, he really has no idea how to do that. Fortunately, he knows just the person to help him out. His long-time friend, Sarah Crabtree, just happens to be the local schoolteacher. If anyone knows about kids, it would be Sarah. Never mind that her unconventional family sometimes comes up with the strangest ideas, Sarah is rock-solid, and Daniel knows he can count on her advice.
Soon, Daniel realizes that he needs more than just good advice to keep Eli in line; he needs a wife to help him with all of the mundane aspects of trying to be a parent. What better choice than to ask Sarah to marry him? After all, they’d been friends forever, and if Daniel was going to get tied down, at least being married to a friend wouldn’t be all bad.
Sarah Crabtree has loved Daniel McCabe since grade school, all the while pretending to be just his friend. After all, when one was a member of the wacky Crabtree family, one had to keep all the friends they could get! Daniel had never realized it, Sarah hid it quite well, but she had always loved him deeply. So much so that she was willing to accept his unconventional proposal.
Sarah sets out to woo Daniel into loving her. First she tries becoming such a fantastic wife that he can’t help but appreciate her. When that doesn’t work, Sarah moves on to other feminine tricks, not about to give up on her love for Daniel – and the chance to turn their name-only marriage into something more real.
THE SCOUNDREL is a sweet love story - sometimes funny, sometimes serious, but always interesting. Author Lisa Plumley has created characters that sparkle with wit and realism. The Old West backdrop is a perfect backdrop for the spunky schoolteacher heroine and the blustering bachelor blacksmith. In THE SCOUNDREL, Lisa Plumley has crafted a light-hearted tale sure to amuse and entertain even the pickiest of romance readers.
