Little Old Lady, or LOL, Ivy Malone can’t seem to get away from mysteries no matter how far she travels in this great big country. How could she know a stop in Oklahoma would wind her up at an emu farm with another passenger she never planned on? Koop, the cat, doesn’t seem to mind the new edition to their “family”, but what is Ivy to do if the notorious Braxton brothers, one of whom she’d helped get sent to prison, found her with their vendetta? And what does her new friend have to hide? Emus? What does she know about emus?
When Ivy and her new friend, Abilene, find a mystery on the emu ranch, can they convince the police the official ruling on the case is wrong? Can they convince THEMSELVES?
This was my first Ivy Malone mystery. I must admit my interest was peaked with this book to read the first two. “On the Run” by Lorena McCourtney is a refreshing mystery with very interesting characters. You have the LOL and the young 20-something finding common ground in life as well as learning from each other. You have suspects with enough motive to make anyone suspicious and some quirky ranch owners who don’t seem to know what the word “conventional” means.
I enjoyed this book very much. The characters are believable and likable without being over the top. There’s depth to each of them which will easily lead to future adventures. I found no objectionable content, except some graphic descriptions which parents may want to preview before allowing anyone in the young teen range to read.
All in all, “On the Run” was a hit for me. I look forward to seeing what other trouble Ivy, Koop and Abilene can get into.
