Set in the background of the West this is not your basic romance. Ms. Storm has skillfully taken the reader back to the1890's after the death of Crazy Horse and into a time when many tribes were living under the rule of the army. From one of these reservations a young woman who carried the dream of her father and the hope of his people to reunite the tribe once again introduces us to their cause. August Moon daughter of Crazy Horse takes on the role of leading her small band of Indians to safety and away from the life of the reservation. With winter setting in she knows the tribe will not survive the long trek north without food and supplies.
Cole Wilkins was on his way to delivery some horses when while taking a rest from the trail finds that a young boy has taken off with his stock. To his surprise when he catches up to him the he is not a he but a she . Their first meeting is far from love at first sight but it's the first time August Moon has ever found a white man who was truly willing to help the Indians. Two wandering souls crossing paths on a simple trail was not by chance. Somehow one feels that these two were destined to meet and their lives would and had to be together.
The life of the Indian was changing and slowly their past was dissolving into the dust that the winds swept and scattering to the four winds. The Ghost Dancers tried to bring back the magic that they once had but they too were seeing that the magic and power was also fading. The army had too many men who felt the same way as Custer did and for that reason so many women and children faced their fate in the name of justice. In the middle of all this Cole and August found a common ground -- love. Though August Moon still searched for that dream of her father's her love for Cole was even stronger.
I loved this story. The history and feeling that the reader was actually
there and saw the senseless killing and feel the pain of the Indians
makes this a stirring novel. The mark of a great writer is one that can
take the reader into that time and era and feel for the characters and Ms. Storm has done that and more. She has made August Moon come to life in her pages and given the reader a look back in time to a proud group of people who
were a part of this great country's history. Thank you Ms. Storm
