MADE OF HONOR by Marilynn Griffith

Single and stuck in a status quo job, Dana Rose is ready to say no thanks to any more bridesmaid offers. Ten times in enough. Dana works on her hobby – making soaps and aromatherapy products – after hours, and one day hopes to open her own bath store. It was a dream she shared with the Ideal man who left her and married someone else. And, then, just when she’s strong enough to stick to that one conviction, her life gets interesting.

She’s fired, decides to turn her hobby into a money making venture, her conniving sister and wayward brother return and the Ideal man opens DANA’s business right across the street. But, Dana has something we all need, The Sistah’s of the Sassy Sistahood. These friends who have been together for a very long time, know all of each other’s secrets and love each other anyways. These friends help Dana discover her true self worth and she learns along the way, that our great God loves us so much, He wants us to take that second chance.

Even though Dana has a very full range of situations and people to deal with she finds her way with God’s help. But, when that eleventh invite comes to be not just a bridesmaid but a maid of honor, will she be strong enough to stand by her convictions?

Chia pets, Twiggy and Chunky Monkey are cultural symbols mentioned in just the first page of Made To Honor, giving us an indication of the delightfully fun and yet serious journey we’re about to embark on.

Ms. Griffith is a refreshingly different voice in the land of what seems to be cookie cutter ‘lits’. Her characters don’t whine or pout or complain without seeking solutions and figuring out resolutions. I like Dana Rose- she could be me….always fussing about weight, not really fitting in with any particular crowd, when she stood on the stage at her singles group chastising them for their, in her opinion non Christ like behavior – I saw myself. Dana and her friends are a welcome addition to the chick-lit world and I hope we get to visit with the Sassy Sistah’s more often.
