DARK FATHOM by Tom Morrisey

Beck Easton lives a dual existence: his public life is filled with a rather sedate career as a partner in a software engineer corporation, but his private career, as a secret agent for the National Security Agency overflows with adventure, suspense, and enough adrenaline to keep him going through the scariest of events. His last secret mission went well, but left Beck questioning his motives, tactics, and the meaning of life. He’s ready to retire, but discovers there is no easy farewell to the agency. Especially when the agency has a most pressing assignment that could safe the world, if done correctly. br>
Terrorist Ahmed bin Saleen is bent on destruction of the West – most importantly the United States of America. bin Slaeen is on a quest to recover an item that has long lain on the bottom of the sea near Bermuda. Beck is given the assignment to recover this same item, and the terrorist and our hero battle time to be the one to retrieve it before America could be saved or destroyed.

Before Beck is sent to Bermuda by NSA for the secret assignment, he is asked to be a consultant with the hired decorator for the software company. He is wholly uninterested until he sees the gorgeous designer, Angela Bower and his interest in office lighting shoots through the roof. As these two grow closer to a romantic relationship, Beck is assigned to the Bermuda site and Ahmed bin Saleen. Beck accepts, but must keep secrets from Angela who already has doubts about him, because Beck is not a Believer and she is. Soon Angela and Beck have to face a problem bigger than the differences between the two of them, and Beck has to fight a battle with the evil that is terrorism. If Beck wins one battle there is no guarantee the other will even exists.

Author Tom Morrisey has been compared to Clive Cussler, but I think that comparison is incorrect. While the plot elements of suspense, adventure and even private life activities (diving etc) are similar, Morrisey’s stories hold more hope than Cussler’s, because he stows along the story line a faith element. His characters are presented with the plan of salvation and make real life arguments and choices regarding a life lived for Christ.

It’s not often my husband and I enjoy the same writers. However, this is one book I know my husband will enjoy. We are SCUBA certified, too, and always enjoy the rare well written diving novel. I will order Morrisey’s Deep Blue, and any other books I can find, this is one writer who gets added to my must read book list.
