Hazel Montgomery has
always known she was a witch. Yet, every time she tried to use her
natural gift, something always runs amuck. Self-taught in the ways of
the art, she thinks she’s found the perfect solution. All she needs to
do is cast a spell on Halloween night. A night of the full moon, a night
her powers would be at there peak. But first, she needs to get through
the Halloween festivities.
As a werewolf, the
alpha leader of his pack, Drake Cole’s duty is to protect the witch’s
coven in the area. Years ago, he had been assigned to watch over Hazel.
Keeping his distance, he has watched her grow through the years without
a single sign that she is a true witch. That is until he attends the
Halloween party. His immediate reaction to Hazel both pleases and
disturbs him, for the intense emotion tests his control. Could he have
found his true mate?
Hazel uses her
powers at the party, but it does not turn out as expected. As usual. And
for her troubles, she finds herself arrested on trumped up charges.
Drake breaks her out of jail, taking her to his home. For years, Hazel
concentrated on her studies to the exclusion of all else, but no more. A
night in Drakes bed awakens her to a whole new world. Yet, in the light
of day, Hazel fears that a man like Drake could not love someone like
her. When she is arrested for breaking out of jail, Drake comes to her
rescue again and she starts to have hope.
The Witching Hour
is an engaging tale from the first page. Hazel’s antics made me laugh,
while Drakes reactions to her kept me entertained. I love the world
created with witches and werewolves and how they need one another to
survive. The last scene of the book threw me a bit and I cannot decide
if I like it or not. The unexpected twist is not for the timid. That
said, Marteeka Karland kept me entertained throughout. I love to read
paranormal and The Witching Hour is no exception.
