WHEN WIZARDS RULE by Lora Leigh

Marina is a princess, independent minded, and proud of it. Yet it seems that everyone suddenly wants the women who have always been self-sufficient to rely on the men that have come from the neighboring kingdom. These aren’t ordinary men, they are wizards that are looking for their match, and she’s tired of it. She’s particularly drained from the twins, Caise and Kai’el, her self appointed guards. They keep following her and driving other men off. It’s not that she doesn’t notice the twins, but due too her tragic past doesn’t want anything to do with them. While her past is brutal, there’s something else that must be kept from the twins at all costs, and the only way to do that is to keep them away.

Caise and Kai’el know that Marina is the one for them. They’ve been told she’s the one they must have in order for all the plans to save their people to come together. The problem is, the more they are around her the more they seem to care what her feelings are. As Caise and Kai’el begin to understand their complicated quarry, the lines between right and wrong and who they need to obey seem to blur, and they begin to think that the way they are going about their ultimate goal could be way off course.

When Wizards Rule is about people who are desperate to save their people from an evil entity that has been awakened and wants to take over. In order to reach their full potential, twin male wizards need their third, a woman, in order to complete the triad and become strong. Long ago, the male twins had abused this privilege and would marry for what the women could bring them in power, instead of love. Because of this, the women split off from the men and built their own kingdom, vowing to never allow them to be subjugated like that again. But when a powerful evil stalks the land, they have no choice but to allow the triads again, but this time it’s going to be different.

Marina is a strong woman who’s been through a lot, and managed to prevail. She sometimes comes across as spoiled, and that makes her a little hard to really sympathize with sometimes. The two brothers, Caise and Kai’el don’t seem to be as likeable either, they seem stiff and uncaring. All of them warm up in the end, but it makes it hard to see why they like each other at all. It’s a good story, with plot twists and great sex, along with a compelling story line that keeps you reading until the end.
