As love takes down two of his brothers, Reid is sure he’s the one that will outlast them all. He’d been well trained by his father that mating for life isn’t what he wants. Besides, he’s been enjoying himself with all the women at his disposal and he can’t imagine settling down with just one. Then Jasmine shows up, and all his preconceived notions about love and mating are thrown out the window. She’s the first woman that could ever resist him, and the only one that he will ever want.
Jasmine is leaving her abusive husband for good, after hearing that he wants to have children with her. She had been living in a fog for the entire time she had been married to him, but that statement about having a child with him snapped her out of it long enough to leave. No way is she going to get trapped into a relationship with an overbearing male again. When she finds herself attracted to Reid, she does her best to ignore it. One thing leads to another and she ends up in his bed. But it’s not permanent, right? Because everyone knows that Reid isn’t looking for a relationship.
Jasmine and Reid have a volatile relationship that is set off by a series of misunderstandings. Jasmine is trying to escape her powerful, abusive husband. Reid is finding himself unexpectedly falling for this woman who is determined to stay out of a relationship with a man. Will they be able to meet halfway?
I love the interactions between these two very strong people. Jasmine comes across initially as weak, but only because she has had years of brainwashing to make her that way. Once she snaps out of it, she’s more than a match for Reid. Reid is an alpha male that has no intention of settling down until he meets Jasmine. It’s a book that keeps you on your toes and thoroughly engages your attention, the kind I like the best. The author suggests in the beginning that you read the other parts of the series, and I have to agree. Although the book is definitely capable of standing on its own, there are characters and references from past books that unless you had read them would be pretty frustrating to figure out. This entire series is a lot of fun to read, and I can’t wait to see what happens next in the world of the Var.
