Mai is amazed but cautious when a big alien space ship lands on earth. She’s there at the reception earth had prepared for the aliens, but when they finally arrive she can hardly believe her eyes when she finds out that they are the vampires that her and her friends always thought they wanted to meet. However, the worst part is they aren’t just a fantasy; they are real, and hungry for blood. Mia finds out the hard way that they are not quite the romantic image she’s had of them for years. After they wipe out the entire earth reception, it seems that they want to take some food to go. Unfortunately, though Mai misses the main course, she to become the desert.
Xavion is looking for some bait to catch a thief. Kadira is notorious even for a vampire for his violence and propensity to steal other people’s catches. The problem is, in Xavions world you have to catch the thief in the act, and they haven’t been able to do that. When Xavion grabs Mia, he only sees her as a means to catch Kadira once and for all. He only views her as food … Doesn’t he?
Fast paced and funny, Raiders of Vampyra is a tongue in cheek kind of story that is a blast to read. Mia is into Goth when she is on earth, and thinks that Vampires are something that would be very cool to meet. When she meets them in the flesh she’s not so wild about them, but accepts what’s happening to her with a calmness that’s surprising. Xavion is puzzled that she’s not terrified, and that he is actually starting to like this spunky woman far too much. Because he likes her, he starts to wonder how he’s going to let her be the bait that he’d originally brought her on board for. The great thing about this story is that even though the vampires are pretty brutal characters at first, you grow to like the crew in a weird sort of way. The interaction between Mia and Xavion is funny and passionate; I really enjoyed reading this fast paced book. It’s not for the faint of heart of course, they are vampires after all. But if you are looking for something funny, a little gory, and fast paced this is the book for you.
