PROMISES by Jo Barrett

Bobbi McBride is on the run. After her brother, an FBI agent’s disappearance, she knew that she had to go into hiding. She doesn’t know who to trust, even his fellow FBI agents and with her brother missing, Bobbi doesn’t have the answers she needs to come out of hiding.

Years ago, Bobbi McBride had a crush on Travis Reid, her brother’s friend. Now, years later, he ends up on her doorstep, bleeding, ill and she’s not sure what to do about it. Her brother, Jason has been missing, and knowing that he and Travis were still connected, Bobbi prays that Travis has news of Jason’s whereabouts. As she tends to his wounds and nurses him back to health, Bobbi has to fight her feelings for Travis, knowing that he’d never see her as anything other than Jason’s little sister.

Travis Reid, FBI agent came to Bobbi McBride’s doorstep bearing bad news. Jason’s dead, and Travis has vowed to protect Bobbi at all costs. Jason’s killers are now after Bobbi, and Travis plans to keep her safe, and she hates it!  Travis knows that romance and the job don’t mix, but he realizes as he tries to protect Bobbi, that the little girl that she used to be that would follow him and Jason around, is no longer little. She’s a woman now and Travis fights to keep her distracting beauty deter him from keeping her safe.

Promises by Jo Barrett, is an intriguing romance that is a wonderful read. Bobbi and Travis come together in their own grief, with danger lurking in the shadows that could tear them apart. Both characters come to realize a lot about themselves and ultimately each other. With the heat of every moment and murderers on their tail as they try to out-run them, Bobbi and Travis can’t escape the undeniable connection they have, beyond that of just caring about Jason. Ms. Barrett writes a deeply moving story with intrigue and suspense which blends very well together.
