Brand’s heart had been scarred long ago by a heartless woman who wanted nothing but power, scorning his love. Now he’s a powerful warrior setting out to claim the land he won, and nothing will stand in his way. After his first experience at love, he’s vowed to never fall for a woman again. It isn’t until he meets the lady of the castle he’s won that he starts to wonder if love wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
Brynna remembers seeing a man and his lover at a lake years ago, and being captivated by the joy and love of life the man had during that time. When Brand arrives to take over her father’s castle, she can hardly believe her eyes. It’s the same man! This time he seems bitter and hard, and with none of the previous love of life. She wants to hate him, because he’d conquered her father’s lands, but finds her self falling for him instead. She’s got a long road ahead, because Brand doesn’t want to fall in love again.
Brand is a warrior that has been sent to take over a castle he’d won in battle and be able to finally call someplace home. Brynna resents him, but quickly grows to love and care for him, even though he can never love her in return. When his past love comes back into his life, Brynna thinks that her marriage might be over in favor of his old love. She’s determined to fight for him though, because she believes she has enough love for the both of them.
LORD OF DESIRE was an appealing book to read with plenty of subplots to keep you interested. I had a bit of a hard time getting into the book, because I thought that Brynna fell for Brand a little too quick, and Brand shouldn’t have let one woman who obviously wasn’t what he thought destroy him. I would have liked for him to be stronger than that. I liked the way that Paula Quinn handles the period though; it all came alive for me while I was reading the book. LORD OF DESIRE is definitely a book to watch out for if you like historical romances, it’s got everything a true romance reader would want. There’s a great plot, a lot of intrigue, and two very stubborn people at the center. Give LORD OF DESIRE a try, you won’t regret it.
