ADA, Natalie Vaughn
came to Fairweather to have a second chance with her life, new career
and a new outlook on life after the mistakes of her past became too much
to bear and reminders of what she thought her failures were constant.
Her first job as Fairweather’s new ADA, is one that will change her life
forever. A high-profile murder case, where she finds the victim, leads
her on a hunt for a killer who is hitting too close to home, as he
begins stalking her. Questioning herself, the strangers she has to trust
in the city she’s just arrived in and a man that sets her pulse racing,
keeps Natalie on her toes and her heart in serious danger. Natalie swore
she’d never love again, but Lieutenant Dylan Creighton, is proving that
he can shatter her bulletproof heart.
Lieutenant Dylan
Creighton has been after the same man for years. The leader of organized
crime in Fairweather shattered Dylan’s family and Dylan wants justice.
When all avenues have proven futile in the past, Dylan knows that this
latest murder might lead him to the man he’s been after. But new ADA,
Natalie Vaughan is not what Dylan expects when she’s put in charge of
the case. Dylan doesn’t think that this young attorney knows exactly how
important the case is, how important it is to bring the crime boss to
justice. But despite his misgivings about Natalie as the attorney
handling the case, Dylan can’t help but be drawn to her. She’s
shattering the walls he erected around his heart and he’s helpless to
stop her.
As Dylan and Natalie
fight to catch a killer, danger lurks around every corner, targeting
Natalie, and the feelings they have for one another. Can they catch a
killer in time and obtain justice, while learning that the best thing
for either of them is one another?
Brenda Harlen
introduced Lieutenant Dylan Creighton in McIver’s Mission,
her first SIM, two years ago. When I read that story, I was immediately
drawn to Dylan and hoped that Ms. Harlen would write a story all his
own. My hopes were answered and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Dylan
and Natalie are multi-faceted characters who are strong, determined,
have been hurt by love, but don’t wallow in their pain. These two
characters together are an unstoppable force, for the criminals they are
after and to the readers who will enjoy them. They both capture the
heart of their reader and will be long remembered. Secondary characters
like Natalie’s sister, Shannon, and her son, Jack, also steal the heart
of the reader.
Bulletproof Hearts
is a fast-paced, one sitting read, with drama, crimes to uncover and
danger that keeps a reader on the edge of their seat. Most of all, it’s
a romance, true romance, that readers are swept away with. Natalie and
Dylan each fight their attraction for one another and this reader
enjoyed their attempts at denying it, while each was already falling for
the other. Ms. Harlen pens a great romance, depicted wonderfully in
Bulletproof Hearts. This book has it all and has found its
spot next to other works by this author on my keeper shelf.
