Justin Kramer has been accused of the brutal murder of his wife. The only person who can clear his name is a homeless man who frequents the mission where Justin works, and no one can find him. Justin has two sons also, and one of them has undergone a personality change since the death of his mother.
Justin takes the boys on a little winter vacation to an old cabin that has good memories from when he was a teen. The Mahoney family owns the cabin. Justin’s first love was Keri Mahoney. They were separated when Justin’s parents died and he was forced to move in with relatives. The two young people promised to be together one day, but it never happened.
Keri Mahoney is a police officer in the small town. Her older sister tells her that Justin’s been accused of murder. Keri can’t believe it, but when Justin shows up unannounced at her family’s cabin; she immediately is suspect he’s on the lam. But, she knows, deep in her heart, that he couldn’t possibly do what he’s been accused of.
It becomes pretty clear that Justin is being set-up, but who and why? The suspense builds as his time as a free man begins to run out and Keri must choose if she’s going to help the man she realizes she still loves.
This first book in the Mahoney Sister’s series is wonderful. I love the heroine, the hero, the storyline, the setting – everything. I did read it in one day; I wanted to see what Keri would be up to next, and how Justin would ever be able to clear his name so his sweet sons wouldn’t be orphans.
I highly recommend REASONABLE DOUBT; I’m pretty sure any reader would be enthralled, REASONABLE DOUBT is a Reviewer Choice award winner.
