LEVI’S WILL by W. Dale Cramer

Will Mullett made a mistake. A bad error that causes him to be shunned, unless he confesses. His father is angry at him. And Will will never be able to live this down. So after dark, he sneaks out the bedroom window and runs away. He’s nineteen-years-old, and the world is waiting for him.

But life isn’t as easy as he imagined. There is a war going on. And as an Amishman, Will is a conscientious objector. But, he can’t be Amish anymore. He has to assume a new name, a new identity. And this new man isn’t anyone Will is familiar with. So why would he object to war? Will enlists in the Army and heads off to fight for his country.

Years later, Will wants to return home. But home is . . . where? Will his father ever forgive him? What about the other people that Will’s decisions hurt?

LEVI’S WILL is a story about an Amish boy who becomes English and searches for his identity. I found it easy to identify with Will, though at times I wanted to shake him, sit him down, and explain to him what exactly might happen if he makes this decision or that. But since this is a character, and not real, I didn’t have that option and just had to hope that everything would come out all right for Will at the end.

LEVI’S WILL is a bit confusing at first as it jumps from present to past and back and forth. I think in a way, it would have been easier reading if it was written chronologically, but Mr. Cramer did an excellent job tying the past and present scenes together as seamlessly as possible. Pick up LEVI’S WILL for another unforgettable read by W. Dale Cramer.
