Chemist Dr. Chella Ter-Berron has spent the last three years developing T-56, a drug that would virtually eliminate pain. When she discovers that her formula is missing, she’ll do anything to retrieve it, even sleep with the enemy.
Yes, Kain Suvan stole Chella’s formula, but there’s more to Kain than meets the eye. Unfortunately, someone stole the formula from him. He’s been lusting after Chella from a far and now that he’s got her, he’s not letting her go.
Thrust into close quarters on a journey to the deadliest reaches of the universe, Chella and Kain search for her missing formula. But can they trust each other enough to complete the mission? And once the mission is complete, what will happen to their hearts?
CHELLA’S QUEST is a great short story, but one that would have been even better as a full novella. Laura Bacchi did a wonderful job setting up her future in a limited amount of space and boy, can she write steamy sex scenes. Chella and Kain are great characters, two people from completely different worlds thrust together for a mutual cause. But the story begged to be filled out, more development of the relationship between Chella and Kain, more description of the worlds created by Ms. Bacchi, and more suspense exploring just who is the villain. Ms. Bacchi has great potential as an author, and I look forward to reading more from her.
