Using her bother’s blood, Jeanne McBen has finally developed an antiserum for NextGen, the modern day plague. Unfortunately, Gregory Trench, her research sponsor and mentor, has stolen the antiserum and her brother. She discovers that, in actuality, NextGen is the result of Gregory’s experimentation. He now wants her formula so that he can mass produce the antiserum and sell it to the rich. He uses Jeanne’s brother’s safety as the incentive for her to hand over the formula for the antiserum. Jeanne has always safeguarded a portion of the formula against corporate thieves. She fears that if she hands it over to Trench, both she and her brother will be dead. Desperate to save him, she runs from Trench and stumbles into Mael MacRaigl, a stranger who is hauntingly familiar and who offers to help her.
Mael MacRaigl knows Jeanne. She is his one true love. Over seven hundred years ago, he had met, married and loved Jeanne but she was lost to him. He also knows that their love is the kind that can last centuries, in fact, he bet on it. When he discovers a way to be with her again, he takes it, regardless of the consequences. But when he is finally together with Jeanne again, she doesn’t remember him and when he sends her back in time to save herself and her brother, Mael doesn’t recognize her. Will they be able to rediscover the love that was so all consuming? And is so, will Jeanne be able to accept Mael and the sacrifices he’s made to be with her?
All I Want is a wonderful story that has it all - suspense, intrigue, time travel, vampires, sex and love. Jeanne and Mael have a love that transcends time, literally! In the beginning of the story, you can feel Mael’s desperation and pain. He’s been waiting for Jeanne and the circumstances that would allow them to be together again for centuries, yet she remembers nothing. Although she can’t remember him, their interactions are full of sexual tension and she puts her trust in him. When she travels back in time and meets Mael again, she has to disregard all of her previous thoughts beliefs. When he meets her again, Mael knows she’s the one for him. Destined to be a great clan chieftain, he’s willing to give it all up to be with Jeanne. But others will not allow it and interfere.
Ms. Painter does a fabulous job bring the medieval world alive. The highlanders, the land, the superstitions all come to life in vivid detail. All I Want is the kind of book that you can’t get out of your mind. Once you begin it, you won’t be able to put it down. And if you enjoy a story with a twist (or two), you’ll love this one!
