Lindy Field, Harley-riding defense attorney, is working solo with few cases to sustain her. After suffering a breakdown when a teenage gang member she defended was convicted on a lie, Lindy is trying to get both her personal and professional life back on track.
When a thirteen-year-old boy appears at a softball game with a rifle and kills six people, five of them children, Lindy is appointed by a judge she respects to defend him. Once again, Lindy will face Leon Colby, the Deputy District Attorney who sent her former client to prison for life.
Lindy's new young client is uncooperative, and public opinion is against him. Not even his father cares what happens to him.
On her journey to discover the truth, Lindy reveals her strength of character, determination, and love of justice. Also revealed is God's power to redeem even the most hopeless and helpless.
Bell's characters are fully developed, interesting, and real. You will care about them. I admired Lindy's courage to fight her personal demons in spite of her fears, and her resolve to overcome her weaknesses. I identified with the parents who lost their children, especially Mona Romney, who lost and then regained her faith through tragedy. I highly recommend any and all of Bell's books. I especially enjoyed his historical novel Glimpses of Paradise (Bethany House 2005).
