| For their protection, sisters Sabrina and Michelle
Sullivan have been in the relocation assistance program since their
father was killed in a revenge murder. A security specialist, he'd
been working an operation with the CIA at the time. Now, 5 years later,
Sabrina wants a background check done on a man Michelle has gone on a
vacation with. Perimeter is the security company 'Sully' Sullivan
worked with, so Sabrina goes to visit her Uncle Theo Howell, her
father's friend and partner, for the information she needs. There
she meets Zack Lansing, her father's protégé, who is currently an
operative with Perimeter. But although Theo seems pleased to see
her, Zack makes it clear that he's not in the mood to do background
checks for the woman he blames for almost destroying Perimeter.
But his anger quickly turns to concern when they realize that the man
Michelle is vacationing with isn't her boyfriend -- he's her kidnapper.
A former Perimeter employee, John Derringer is a thief and con man, but
kidnapping isn't his style. So why is he holding Michelle against
her will? Michelle and Sabrina were trained from childhood to join
Perimeter when they grew up -- so why hasn't Michelle found a way to
contact her sister yet?
Working on assumptions, false leads, lies and shaky trust, Sabrina
and Zack try to figure out the good from the bad to save Michelle from
her father's fate. Initially competitors in the same race, they
quickly realize that if they're going to find Michelle alive they're
going to need to work together -- very closely.
PARALLEL LIES is an action packed adventure for sure. The
author quickly brings you into the story then unleashes a flurry of
twists and turns to keep the reader guessing and wondering.
Sabrina is a tough woman, taught by her father her whole life to be
prepared to enter his world of espionage. I liked her -- smart,
and physically and mentally able to keep up with Zack. Maybe she
was a bit too perfect for her lack of actual experience in the field,
but I'll forgive her that.
Zack has enough anger to explain his passion but it doesn't obsess
him. He adored Sully, and that loss still drives him to be the
best. He's a good man, and his ability to support Sabrina
rather than underestimate her made him a good partner for her.
I completely enjoyed PARALLEL LIES, the first Bombshell book I've
read. It was a one sitting read for sure, and a wonderful way to
spend an afternoon. A good mix of relationships, adventure and
snappy dialogue, this book is definitely recommended.
