BACK FROM HELL by Shiloh Walker

Jenai’s dreams have been haunted by a man for years, but she knows that he is much more than just a dream. He’s real and he wants her, yet she refuses to give him the information he wants, where to find her. If he ever finds her, he will want to make her his, and that’s the last thing she wants. She’s had so little control over her own life that she doesn’t want to add one more thing that is out of her hands. But he’s relentless, and deep inside, she just might want him to find her.

Ronan works for a secret agency for years while looking for his mate. He’s been looking for his dream lover for a long time, and she’s been so good at hiding herself that it’s been a near impossible task. When a new assignment is dropped in his lap and he sees her face, he knows he’s finally got her, whether she wants it or not. Unfortunately, the assignment is to make her join his agency or kill her, and he can’t let either one happen.

Jenai is a hunter of the paranormal, with the ability to capture and kill those that are out of control. She’s a rare breed, because she’s half Vampire, half hunter. She’s concerned that her vampire self might be taking over, and has to fight it every day. The lack of control over her life makes her want nothing to do with the man who haunts her dreams. When he show’s up in the flesh, she rejects him with all she has. But he’s not there only to claim her, someone is out to kill her, and they’ve sent him in as the first wave.

There was a lot going on in this story, and it had many twists and turns. I like it when the female character is strong, and Jenai certainly fits the bill. She doesn’t give an inch unless she has too. Ronan is just as tough, and when these two clash, the fireworks that ensue are awesome. It’s a complicated story. There is some torture and some scenes when Jenai goes to hell and is given to the demon Azar that might be a little strong for some people, but it fits into the way the story reads and wasn’t gratuitous at all. Shilo Walker handles her characters in such a way that has me even understanding the motivations and feeling sympathy for the bad guys, and that’s what makes her stories work so well for me. The sex was steaming hot, Ronan and Jenai really light up the pages. I’m definitely looking forward to the next one in the series.
