Dianne Selby is sick and tired of living in Virginia City and anxious to return to her beloved ranch in Montana. But her husband, Cole, seems equally determined to keep her away from it. His transportation business is doing well, and he sees no reason to leave their life in the city for a shack and an uncertain future on the ranch.
When Cole’s father becomes ill, Cole moves his family even further away from the ranch in order to help out his mother. But his mother hates Dianne and their children and finds every excuse to belittle them. How much ridicule can Dianne stand? And why is Cole taking his mother’s side instead of his wife’s and children’s? Will Dianne ever see her beloved ranch again?
THE HOPE WITHIN is the fourth book in the Heirs of Montana series and readers will want to read the previous books first as this is a continuation of the story. THE HOPE WITHIN is well told, but I didn’t find it quite as interesting as some of the other books in the series. I didn’t like the mother-in-law at all, and that might have taken away from my enjoyment of the book.
It was nice to revisit previously introduced characters in THE HOPE WITHIN and find out what is happening in their lives. Some of the decisions the characters made disappointed me, but I still hoped they would get what they desired.
