Blindness has never held back Tessa Marks from anything, except men, so when Henry Marks offered her marriage she jumped at the chance at happiness with a man who wanted her despite her flaw. What she got was drunken beatings, womanizing, and finally, blessed solitude. It isn’t an easy solitude, however, even though he’s been gone three months, there’s always the possibility of his return.
Will Ashton thought he was doing the right thing by going out to the Mark’s ranch and letting Henry Mark’s widow know that Henry was dead, by Will’s hand. He expected a blind woman, bitter that she’d been left alone for so long and struggling to survive. What he found instead was a beautiful, lonely woman that stirred more that feelings of obligation in him.
From the moment Tessa shot a hole in the water bucket dead on with her shotgun, Will knew he was smitten. He thought he could offer his help around the farm to ease his guilt and move on, but Tessa’s silent strength and secret yearning bring both their desires to a head. Will Tessa still want him after she finds out he killed her husband?
HIRED HANDS is a beautiful love story. Sable Grey has written two wonderful characters. Tessa, even thought handicapped, is strong and capable and Will is honorable. Handicapped characters are not the norm and Tessa is an exceptional heroine. She proves that when one sense is lost, the others are heightened, and that challenged characters can take what their creators dish out at them. If you’re looking for a heart-warming western with heat, HIRED HANDS is your book…or you could try and get your own hired hand.
