Dolphin trainer and native Hawaiian Kaia Oana is devastated when a tourist boat explodes killing many on board. After a go-nowhere investigation Jesse Matthews the head of security for the naval base asks for Kaia’s help. Using her dolphins, Kaia eagerly assists, but Jesse Matthews sort of gets under her skin. Will these two be able to get beyond their differences and find out what really happened?
The dolphins seem eager to do what Kaia needs, but it’s obvious someone is willing to sabotage the efforts and maybe someone wants to keep hidden the real reason for the tour boat ‘accident’.
(It’s pretty cool what happens late in the book. Of course I can’t tell you because that would ruin it, but you’ll be surprised! )
Colleen Coble brings us another wonderful cast of characters, a beautiful setting, and a on the-edge-of-your-seat story, this time bringing us into the life of a strong heroine in a unique profession, too. I enjoy so much Ms. Coble’s strong heroines and the way she threads faith through without being preachy or sermonizing. If DISTANT ECHOES is any indication of the rest of the series, this Aloha Reef series is going to be wonderful.
