Three hundred year old wizard, Lucinda Divine is woken from a restful nights sleep by “The Call.” However, that wasn’t supposed to be possible. Lucinda was born from human parents and only wizards born from wizard parents could get “The Call” to be a mentor to a newly born wizard. Lucinda is thrilled at the prospect of mentoring the new wizard once he grows to a young boy, but she soon realizes this was not the usual “Call.” She has this overwhelming sense that the new wizard is in trouble and he needs her. Without hesitation, Lucinda transports to where she can sense his presence, but she doesn’t find an abandoned baby as she assumed was the case. Her new trainee is a full-grown man, naked, viral, and without any knowledge of who he is, where he is, or how he got there.
Nyte doesn’t know who he is or anything about his past, but what he does know however is that Lucinda is meant to be his Life Bond. She refuses to cooperate in that area but Nyte is confidant that when the right time comes, Lucinda will be unable to resist.
Lucinda’s mentor, Rand, tries to convince her that the man she’s mentoring is a powerful wizard named Nyte that once killed the woman he loved. Lucinda is cautious, but the pull she feels toward Nyte is too strong to deny. When Nyte regains his memories, Lucinda discovers that he is an extremely powerful wizard, one who can control her with a mere thought. She’s confused by the animosity between Rand and Nyte, the two men she’s closest to in her life. When Lucinda is kidnapped, is it an attempt to kill Nyte, or an elaborate scheme by a crazy alien presence to reunite old friends?
DARKEST NYTE is an outstanding fantasy novel. Elizabeth Batten-Carew’s characters draw the reader into the ins and outs of wizardry, time-travel, and intensely powerful love. Lucinda is a commanding wizard in her own right, but turns in to blabbering mush when the wickedly, desirable Nyte is around. There are twists and turns that will keep you on your toes and a brilliant ending that will warm your heart. I encourage you to read this exceptional book, whether a fantasy reader or not. If you’re not, you will be after reading DARKEST NYTE.
